Mneme

A standalone flashcard app with AI card generation built in. Same spaced repetition engine as Anki, without needing Anki installed.

Press ⌘⌥A anywhere on your Mac to turn whatever you have selected into a card.

Download for macOS (Beta)

Version 0.1.5 · Apple Silicon only · Requires macOS 11 or later

Mneme opens empty. That's expected.

There are no decks in a fresh install, and syncing points at a local server rather than AnkiWeb. So the first launch looks like nothing happened. Pick whichever of these fits:

  • You already use Anki: go to Sync → Switch to AnkiWeb → Download, and sign in with your AnkiWeb account. Your existing collection comes down.
  • You have a deck file: import any .apkg the way you would in Anki.
  • Starting fresh: make a deck and start adding cards — the AI generation works from the first one.

Opening it the first time

Mneme is signed and notarized by Apple, so it should open normally — double-click the DMG and drag Mneme to Applications.

Card generation needs either a Mneme account (sign in under Settings → AI) or your own OpenRouter API key. Audio recording will ask for microphone access the first time you use it.

Updates

Mneme checks for updates each time it starts and installs them on your say-so. You can also check manually under Settings → Tools.
